Kenmore Cooktop Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords

How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
Inside a Kenmore cooktop
Kenmore cooktops, whether built in or on top of a range, cover every type: coil elements, radiant glass, gas burners. Coil tops fail at the element or its receptacle, which can burn or loosen until the element only heats when you wiggle it. A radiant zone that won't heat, or stays on high, usually means a failed element or infinite switch. On gas tops, endless ticking usually comes from a wet burner base or a shorted switch behind a knob, while a single burner that refuses to light tends to have a cracked igniter or plugged ports. Because different suppliers built Kenmore cooktops, parts don't cross between models even when they look alike, so we order against the full model number.
Common failure points on Kenmore cooktops
- Coil receptacle burned
- Infinite switch stuck on high
- Radiant element open
- Spark switch clicking nonstop
- Burner ports clogged

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Most likely the receptacle the coil plugs into has burned or worked loose. The receptacle gets replaced, and so does the element if its terminals are pitted.
The infinite switch that controls that zone has usually failed closed. It's a replaceable part.
