Hotpoint Cooktop Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords

How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
Inside a Hotpoint cooktop
A Hotpoint electric range normally carries four plug-in coils, each seated in a terminal receptacle and governed by its own infinite switch behind the knob. That design is easy to repair but vulnerable to one specific failure: a loose coil arcs against its receptacle, burning both, so a coil that works only when pushed down is a warning sign. A switch that sticks on high or won't turn on is also common. Gas Hotpoint cooktops have sealed burners with spark igniters, and their problems are ignition and clogged ports. We test the element and switch separately with a meter, since swapping coils between positions can hide which part has actually failed.
Common failure points on Hotpoint cooktops
- Coil receptacle burned from arcing
- Infinite switch stuck on high
- Coil element open
- Spark igniter cracked
- Drip pan corroded under the coil

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
More likely the infinite switch behind that knob. The element either heats or doesn't; the switch controls how much. We test the switch before replacing it.
Yes, if the range is off and cool, swapping same-size coils can tell you whether the element or the socket is at fault. If the receptacle looks burned, stop and have it replaced.
