Maytag Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
Maytag started in Newton, Iowa, and stayed independent until Whirlpool Corporation bought it in 2006. The Newton works closed soon after, so any Maytag made since then is a Whirlpool design assembled in Whirlpool plants: washers in Clyde, Ohio, dryers in Marion and dishwashers in Findlay. That lineage decides how we test the machine and which parts fit it. We are an independent repair company, with no tie to Maytag or to Whirlpool's service network, so a Maytag still inside its factory coverage should go to Whirlpool first. Once it's past that, we come to the house, find the fault and give you a price before anything comes apart.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Iowa name, Ohio assembly line
Two generations of Maytag are still in service. The older one, built before the buyout, includes the Neptune front-loaders that arrived in 1997 and the belt-driven agitator top-loaders that made the brand's reputation. Some of those parts are now hard to find.
The newer generation wears the Maytag badge over Whirlpool hardware. Top-loaders sold under the Commercial Technology label, and the Bravos and Centennial models before them, share their drive systems, lid locks and pumps with Whirlpool machines. That's good news for a repair: the test modes are documented, and the parts move through the same national supply.
Laundry closets, basements and upstairs laundry rooms
Where a Maytag pair sits changes the job almost as much as what broke. In the area's many townhouses the washer often lives in a closet off a bedroom hallway, sometimes stacked, and a slow leak shows up as a stain on the ceiling underneath before anyone sees water on the floor.
Postwar colonials and ramblers usually keep laundry in the basement, near a utility sink and a floor drain, which is more forgiving. Newer houses in Ashburn and other planned communities tend to put a full laundry room on the bedroom level, ideally with a drain pan under the washer. We check the pan, the hoses and the drain standpipe on any upstairs leak call.
Buttons that hint at the problem
Several Maytag features come with their own upkeep. The Pet Pro washers collect hair in a filter reservoir that has to be emptied, and a packed filter slows draining. Dual Power Filtration dishwashers pair a microfilter with a stainless chopper, so a neglected filter shows up as gritty glasses. PowerCold on refrigerators and PowerBlast on dishwashers simply push the normal hardware harder, which means a fan or heater that's already weak tends to give out when the feature is used.
Knowing which of these a model has helps us sort a maintenance issue from a failed part in the first few minutes of a visit.
Deciding whether it's worth fixing
A newer Maytag with a failed pump, lid lock, igniter or fan is almost always worth repairing, since those parts are common and the rest of the machine has years left. A pre-2006 machine that needs a discontinued board or transmission is a different conversation. We tell you which situation you're in once the diagnosis is done, and you decide from there.
Maytag products we see
- Refrigerators: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side and French-door models on Whirlpool platforms, many with PowerCold. Ice makers, water valves, defrost circuits, fans and control boards are the usual work.
- Washers: Commercial Technology and Pet Pro top-loaders, front-loaders, and older Bravos, Centennial and Neptune machines. Lid locks, shifters, pumps, drive motors and suspension parts fail most often.
- Dryers: Gas and electric dryers, including steam and Pet Pro models, many stacked in closets. No-heat faults from vent restriction, igniters, elements, belts, rollers and moisture sensors lead the list.
- Dishwashers: Dual Power Filtration dishwashers with a microfilter, stainless chopper and in many cases a third rack. Drain faults, fill valves, latches, heaters and wash motors are the common repairs.
- Ovens: Single and double wall ovens and the cavities of Maytag ranges. Bake and broil elements, oven sensors, igniters, convection fans and self-clean latches account for most calls.
- Microwaves: Over-the-range microwaves that double as the cooktop vent, plus a few countertop models. No-heat faults, door switches, vent motors, turntable drives and touch panels are the usual calls.
- Freezers: Freezer sections of Maytag refrigerators plus standalone upright and chest freezers. Defrost failures, evaporator fans, start components and worn gaskets are what we find most.
- Cooktops: Gas, radiant and induction cooktops set into the counter. Spark modules and switches, burner valves, radiant elements, infinite switches and induction boards are the typical fixes.
- Stoves: The everyday word for a Maytag range with a problem: a burner that won't light, an oven that won't hold heat, or a panel that has stopped listening.
- Ranges: Freestanding, front-control and slide-in ranges, gas and electric, including Power Burner and Power Preheat models. Controls, igniters, elements, sensors and convection fans are frequent repairs.
Parts for Maytag
For anything built after 2006, a Maytag part usually carries a Whirlpool number, and the big distributors that stock Whirlpool, KitchenAid and Amana hold the common ones, so pumps, igniters, fans and lid locks rarely hold up a job. Pre-buyout machines are a different story: certain Neptune electronics, early refrigerator controls and some transmissions are out of production or exist only as rebuilt stock. We read the model and serial tag, fit the Whirlpool-sourced part where it exists, and say so plainly whenever we're installing a substitute.
Common Maytag Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Mechanically, largely yes. Since the 2006 acquisition, Maytag appliances have been built on Whirlpool platforms with their own styling and feature mix. For repair purposes that means shared parts and shared diagnostic modes, though we still match every part to your exact model number.
Often, depending on the part. Pumps, belts, door switches and heating parts are usually still available. Some control boards and transmissions are not, and in that case we tell you before you commit to anything.
Shut the water valves behind the washer, unplug it and run a towel along the floor to find the wet side. Then book a visit. We trace whether the water came from a hose, the pump, the tub seal or the drain standpipe before quoting a repair.
Covered repairs belong with Whirlpool's own service while the coverage lasts, since we're independent. Once it has run out, book us and we'll take it from there.
