How Maytag designs its refrigerators
Current Maytag refrigerators run on Whirlpool cabinets, so the failure patterns are well mapped. On French-door and bottom-freezer models, a warm fresh-food section with a cold freezer usually traces to the evaporator: either frost has packed the coil because the defrost heater, terminator or board didn't do its job, or the evaporator fan has stopped. The ice maker in the freezer or door is the other big source of calls, typically a frozen fill tube, a weak inlet valve or a module that no longer cycles. PowerCold only drives the compressor and fans harder, so a fridge that struggles after pressing it has a weak part, not a bad button. We check airflow, defrost and the sealed system in that order.

Usually the defrost drain at the back of the freezer has frozen or clogged, so meltwater overflows into the fresh-food side. Clearing and thawing the drain is part of the fix, and we also check the drain heater or strap so it doesn't freeze again.
It won't cure a failed fan or a frosted coil. If the fridge warms up even with the feature on, something in the cooling or defrost system has failed and needs diagnosing rather than more cold settings.
