TrueFix Virginia fixes appliances in homes and small businesses in part of Northern Virginia. The business is run by TrueFix Virginia, which is the party responsible for the personal information this policy covers. “We”, “us” and “our” refer to that business.

This policy sticks to what our website and our office actually do with information. If any part of it leaves you with a question, the contact details at the end of the page reach us directly.

Information from the booking form

To send a technician prepared for the job, the repair request form collects:

  • whether the appliance is at a residence or a business;
  • your service area, ZIP code and the street address where the appliance is;
  • the appliance type, its brand and the symptom you choose from the list;
  • your name, phone number and email address;
  • any notes you type in, for example a model number, a gate code or where to park;
  • your answer to the optional text-message consent box.

Submitting the form sends these details by email to the inbox we use for bookings, writes them to our server's log and adds them to the scheduling and customer-management system we use. You also get an email back confirming we received the request. When you book by phone, we note down much the same information.

After the visit we keep a job record: the appliance, the fault found, the repair you agreed to, the parts installed and the payment.

Information from the text sign-up page

Our text sign-up form asks for your name and mobile number and will not submit unless you tick the consent box. To be able to prove later that you agreed, we save those entries along with the date and time, the address of the page you used and your browser's user-agent string, which is a short technical label identifying the browser and kind of device. That record is also emailed to us.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. Our web server notes routine details about each request, including the IP address, the page requested, the time and the type of browser. We rely on these to keep the site working and to investigate errors or misuse.
  • Google Analytics, if enabled. We may switch on Google Analytics to learn which pages visitors find useful. While it is on, Google places cookies in your browser and receives data about your visit, including a count of taps on our call button. Blocking or deleting cookies, or installing Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, stops this, and the site still works.
  • Taps on our phone number. Tapping a call link may let our customer-management system know that our number was dialed from this site. Your own number is not sent; we only see it if the call actually goes through.
  • Service-area maps. Maps on the area pages use OpenStreetMap tiles and the Leaflet library served from unpkg.com. Your browser downloads those files straight from those providers, which therefore see your IP address and standard request information.

The site carries no advertising pixels or retargeting tags, and we do not run our own tool that tracks individual visitors from page to page.

What we use it for

First and foremost, to handle your repair: contacting you to schedule, telling the technician where to go and what to expect, preparing a quote, ordering parts and checking in afterward. We also use it to keep the records a business must keep for tax and warranty purposes, to answer later questions about a job, to understand which pages help people, and to guard against fraud, spam and legal risk.

Service providers and other disclosures

Personal information is not sold, and it is not handed to other businesses for their own marketing. The following providers process it on our behalf, solely to supply their service to us:

  • the company that hosts our website and its server logs;
  • our email service, which delivers booking notices and confirmations;
  • the scheduling and customer-management software we book jobs in;
  • our text-messaging provider, for people who agreed to texts;
  • Google, when Analytics is on, and the map providers listed above.

Beyond that, we would release information only when compelled by a subpoena, court order or other legal process, when that is necessary to keep people or property from harm, or to a company that takes over the business, which would remain bound by this policy.

Text messages

Texts go only to people who chose to receive them by ticking a consent box that starts out empty, on either the booking form or the sign-up page. Leaving it unticked has no effect on your repair. The messages are about your service: appointment confirmations and reminders, arrival updates, part orders and invoice links.

  • Message frequency varies; a job with a parts order produces more texts than a single visit.
  • Message and data rates may apply.
  • Reply STOP to opt out, or HELP for assistance.
  • Agreeing to texts is never required to buy a repair or anything else from us.
  • Mobile numbers and text-message opt-in consent are not shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

The complete program rules are in our SMS Terms.

Retention and security

Customer and job records stay on file while the business has a use for them, including tax, accounting and warranty needs, and are deleted after that. We hold text consent records as long as we might need to show that consent was given. Pages are delivered over HTTPS, and customer records are open only to the people who handle bookings.

No online system is immune to attack. Should a breach ever involve your personal information, we would notify you as Virginia's breach notification statute requires.

Your rights and choices

You may ask us to confirm whether we hold information about you and to see it, to correct it, to send you a copy in a portable format, or to delete it (other than records the law makes us keep). You may also ask us to stop contacting you. Virginia's Consumer Data Protection Act describes rights of this kind, and we extend them to anyone who asks, whichever state they live in. The steps, our response times and how to appeal a decision are on Your Privacy Rights. Opting out of sale, targeted advertising and profiling is covered on Do Not Sell or Share.

Children

Repairs are booked by adults, and nothing on this site is aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect a child's information. Should a child's details reach us by mistake, let us know and we will erase them.

Links to other sites

When a link takes you to a manufacturer, a parts supplier or another outside website, that site's own privacy practices apply, not ours. It is worth reading their policy before you share anything.

Updates to this policy

Any revision will carry a new date at the top of this page. If a revision changes how we use information we already have, we will publish it on this page ahead of the date it applies.
