GE Appliances Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
GE Appliances is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and has been owned by Haier since 2016. Its brands include GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram and Hotpoint, and a good share of the parts inside them overlap. We are not part of GE's factory service network. If your appliance is still covered by GE, start with GE. After that, we diagnose it in your kitchen or laundry room, show you the failed part and give you a repair price you can approve or turn down. GE equipment is common in builder-grade kitchens, and most of what goes wrong is a standard part that can be ordered and replaced.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

One company, several nameplates
A GE Profile dishwasher, a Café range and a basic GE washer can come off related platforms, and the same valve, sensor or pump may carry three different badges. Knowing that helps with parts but can mislead a diagnosis, because the trim level changes the control board, the features and the error behavior. We go by the model and serial number on the rating tag, not by the name on the door.
Monogram is GE's built-in luxury line. Its repairs share some parts with the GE lines but often call for model-specific components, and we tell you up front when a part has a longer wait.
The kinds of homes where GE turns up
GE is a builder's brand, so it shows up in large numbers of Northern Virginia townhouses and condos, often as a complete matched kitchen with a side-by-side or French-door refrigerator, a slide-in range, an over-the-range microwave and a dishwasher. Newer planned communities around Ashburn and Reston often have GE Profile or Café packages. Older ramblers and split-levels are more likely to have a mix of GE appliances bought one at a time as the originals failed.
Townhouses with laundry upstairs deserve special care. A GE washer leaking in a second-floor closet can reach the kitchen ceiling quickly, so we check the hoses, the drain connection and the drain pan along with the machine itself.
What we check first on GE equipment
Most GE appliances made in the last decade or so have service or diagnostic modes that show fault codes or let us run each part in turn. We use them, but a code tells us where to look, not what to replace. A drain fault, for example, can be a clogged pump, a kinked hose or a failed board output, and the fix is completely different for each one.
We meter the suspected part, confirm the failure, and only then quote the repair.
When a GE appliance isn't worth fixing
Some repairs don't make sense: a sealed-system leak on an older builder-grade refrigerator, a rusted-out dishwasher tub, a cracked outer tub on a washer, or a discontinued control board with no replacement. When we find one of those, we say so before you spend anything on parts, and you can decide what to do next.
GE Appliances products we see
- Refrigerators: Side-by-side, French-door, bottom-freezer and top-freezer models, including Profile and Café with door ice and water. We handle ice maker faults, frost on the evaporator, fan failures, leaks from the water line and warm fresh food.
- Washers: GE top-load washers with agitators or impellers, plus front-loaders and the stacked washer-dryer units common in condos. Typical problems: no spin, a drain fault, a lid lock that won't release, and a leak at the tub or hoses.
- Dryers: Gas and electric dryers, including stacked laundry centers. We replace thermal fuses, heating elements, gas igniters and valve coils, belts, rollers and idler pulleys, and moisture sensors.
- Dishwashers: GE and GE Profile built-in dishwashers with stainless or plastic tubs. We work on drain pumps, circulation pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heating elements and float switches.
- Ovens: Wall ovens and the oven sections of GE ranges, plus Advantium speed ovens. We test bake and broil elements, igniters, sensors, convection fans, relays on the board and door locks.
- Microwaves: Over-the-range and built-in GE microwaves, including Advantium. We fix door switches, turntable motors, vent fans and lights, and we tell you honestly when a high-voltage fault makes the unit not worth repairing.
- Freezers: GE upright and chest freezers in basements, garages and utility rooms. Calls tend to be about a warm cabinet, frost building on the walls, a noisy fan and a door that won't seal.
- Cooktops: Gas, radiant electric and induction cooktops from GE, Profile and Café. We fix ignition faults, burned-out elements, stuck switches and induction zones that won't detect the pan.
- Wine Coolers: Built-in wine and beverage coolers from GE Profile, Café and Monogram. We check sensors, fans, the control and the door seal when a zone won't hold its temperature.
- Stoves: The everyday GE stove: burners that won't light or won't turn off, coils that stay cold, and an oven that won't heat up or holds the wrong temperature.
- Ranges: Freestanding and slide-in ranges in gas, electric, dual fuel and induction. We repair igniters, bake elements, temperature sensors, surface switches, spark modules and control boards.
Parts for GE Appliances
GE parts are easy to find. GE Appliances sells them directly, the big parts distributors carry the common ones, and many components are shared across GE, GE Profile, Hotpoint and some Café models. On older units, a part may have been superseded by a new number that looks a little different. Control boards and some Café or Monogram-specific pieces may take longer to arrive. We look up the part by the model and serial number, use GE parts where they exist, and tell you when an equivalent is the only choice.
Common GE Appliances Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
GE Appliances is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and operates several U.S. factories, but it has been owned by China's Haier since 2016. GE the industrial company licenses the brand name. For repair purposes, the ownership change didn't change the parts system.
We work on GE, GE Profile and Café, and on Monogram when the part can be obtained. Many parts overlap across these lines, but some Café and Monogram components are specific to the model. We confirm availability before starting the repair.
A code narrows the search. It doesn't identify the failed part. We use the code, then test the pump, sensor or valve it points to, because a clogged filter and a failed motor can produce the same code.
We'd point you back to GE Appliances first. If an independent technician works on an appliance under factory coverage, that can complicate your claim. Once coverage has ended, we're glad to help.
