GE Appliances Cooktop Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords

How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How GE Appliances designs its cooktops
GE cooktops come in three distinct types, and each fails differently. Gas cooktops use sealed burners with spark igniters and a shared spark module, so if one burner sparks but never catches, look first at a damp or crusted electrode; if every igniter snaps away with the knobs off, a spark switch has shorted. Radiant electric tops have ribbon elements under the glass, each controlled by an infinite switch or a board relay. Induction models use power boards and cooling fans, and a zone that won't detect a pan may have a board fault or the pan may not be magnetic. We identify the type, check the spill history, and meter the element, switch or board involved.
Common failure points on GE Appliances cooktops
- Spark switch shorted by a spill
- Radiant element open under the glass
- Infinite switch stuck on high
- Induction zone not detecting cookware
- Glass cracked from impact

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
First test your pan with a magnet. If the magnet doesn't stick firmly, the pan won't work on induction. If the pan is fine and one zone still ignores it, we check the power board and the coil connections.
The glass isn't repaired, it's replaced. Some GE cooktops sell the glass on its own, while others require a full top assembly. We check availability by model number before quoting.
