How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How JennAir designs its cooktops
JennAir cooktops come in gas, radiant, induction and downdraft versions, and the downdraft models are what the brand is known for. On a downdraft, weak smoke removal is usually a duct or damper problem rather than a blower problem, although blower motors do wear and pop-up vents can jam when their lift motor or gear fails. On the gas cooktops and rangetops, persistent sparking means water or a bad valve-stem switch, and one dead burner is usually its own igniter or clogged ports. Induction models rely on a power board and a cooling fan, and a zone that cuts out is often overheating electronics. We test each system before replacing parts, since several of them can mimic one another.
Common failure points on JennAir cooktops
- Downdraft pulling weakly from a duct problem
- Pop-up vent stuck
- Blower motor worn
- Spark switch clicking
- Induction zone cutting out
Faults shared by every make are explained on the main cooktop repair page.

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Not always. A crushed duct, grease in a long run or a damper stuck at the outside wall is common. We check the duct path before replacing the blower.
The lift motor, its gears or a switch has likely failed, or something is blocking the track. We test the mechanism and clear or replace what's needed.
