Whirlpool Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
Whirlpool is the brand in a huge number of kitchens and laundry rooms precisely because nobody thinks about it until it quits. When it does, the fix is usually one part, and that part is usually easy to find. We are not a Whirlpool service center, so an appliance still covered by Whirlpool's warranty should go through Whirlpool. For anything past that, a technician diagnoses it in your home, shows you what failed and gives you the price before the work begins.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

One company, several nameplates
Whirlpool Corporation, based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, also owns Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir and Amana. Many of its washers are built in Clyde, Ohio, dryers in Marion, Ohio, dishwashers in Findlay, Ohio, refrigerators in Amana, Iowa, and cooking products in Cleveland, Tennessee, with other models coming from plants elsewhere.
Because those factories feed every brand in the family, a Whirlpool dishwasher and a KitchenAid dishwasher can share a pump, a valve and a control. That shared engineering is why Whirlpool parts are some of the easiest in the trade to find.
Rentals, stacked units and garage fridges
Around Northern Virginia, Whirlpool is a common builder and landlord choice. It fills garden-apartment kitchens, stacked washer-dryers in townhouse closets, and the laundry corner of many postwar basements in Springfield and Fairfax. In rented homes the property owner usually arranges the repair, so check with them before booking.
Plenty of households also run an older Whirlpool refrigerator or chest freezer in the garage. Those units work through humid summers and cold snaps that the indoor kitchen never sees, and their problems often trace back to that setting.
Reading a Whirlpool model number
The model and serial tag is the most useful thing on the appliance. It tells us the platform, the build period and which parts fit, including parts shared with Maytag or KitchenAid. Newer electronic washers and dryers display fault codes that narrow the search, while older mechanical machines are diagnosed the traditional way, with a meter and a look at the wear parts.
When a repair stops making sense
Pumps, valves, lid and door locks, heating elements, igniters, belts, fuses and fan motors are all routine, and fixing them is nearly always cheaper than buying new. The honest exceptions are a sealed-system leak in an older refrigerator, a failed transmission or tub bearing in a well-used washer, and a discontinued control board. When one of those shows up, we explain the numbers and leave the choice to you.
Whirlpool products we see
- Refrigerators: Top-freezer, side-by-side, bottom-freezer and French-door models, many with in-door ice. Defrost faults, ice makers, water valves, fan motors and door gaskets are the standard calls.
- Washers: Top-load washers with agitators or impellers, front-loaders and stacked laundry centers. Drain pumps, lid and door locks, inlet valves, shifters and couplers wear most.
- Dryers: Electric and gas dryers, standalone and stacked. Thermal fuses, heating elements, gas igniters and valve coils, belts, rollers and idler pulleys.
- Dishwashers: Built-in tall-tub dishwashers with manual-clean filters. Filter clogs, pump and valve failures, latches and heaters.
- Ovens: Ovens in freestanding and slide-in ranges plus single and double wall ovens. Bake and broil elements, gas igniters, oven sensors, door locks and control relays.
- Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop microwaves. Magnetrons, diodes, door switches and fuses, vent fans, turntable motors and keypads.
- Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, plus the freezer side of Whirlpool refrigerators. Defrost parts, evaporator fans, start relays, gaskets and thermostats.
- Cooktops: Gas cooktops with spark ignition and electric radiant or coil cooktops. Spark modules and igniters, surface elements, infinite switches and glass tops.
- Stoves: Freestanding gas and electric ranges used as the family stove. Coil receptacles, surface elements, burner igniters, oven igniters and door hinges.
- Ranges: Freestanding and slide-in ranges with electronic controls, some with convection. Control boards, touch panels, igniters, sensors and convection fans.
Parts for Whirlpool
Whirlpool parts move through the company's own parts channel and a wide distributor network, and one part number frequently covers Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana models as well. That keeps common pumps, valves, elements, igniters and switches readily available. Older control boards and cosmetic pieces are sometimes discontinued, and a few have been replaced by updated parts under new numbers. We order from the full model number, and you'll know if what we install is an equivalent instead of the Whirlpool original.
Common Whirlpool Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Often, because one company makes all three. Many pumps, valves, motors and boards are shared, while trim, features and some components differ. We look up parts by your exact model number instead of assuming a match.
Normally the landlord or property manager, since the appliance belongs to them. Let them know first. If they ask us to come, they tell us who approves the price.
The model and serial tag. Refrigerators have it on a wall or the ceiling of the fresh-food section, top-load washers under the lid, dryers around the door opening, dishwashers along the tub edge or inner door, and ranges behind the drawer or on the frame by the oven door.
Many older models can. Long-running washer and dryer designs are especially well supplied. Some older electronic boards and trim are gone, so we confirm the part exists before recommending the repair.
