How a Dishwasher Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How Whirlpool designs its dishwashers
Most Whirlpool dishwashers from the last decade use a manual-clean filter under the lower spray arm, and many owners don't know it's there. When it's packed, dishes come out with grit and the tub may hold water. Clean that first. After that, a drain pump can jam on glass or a bone, an inlet valve can fail to open, and a door latch that doesn't make contact keeps the machine from starting, which often shows as blinking lights. Heating elements and their thermostats fail too, leaving dishes wet and cool. Many Whirlpool dishwashers share parts with Maytag and KitchenAid models built in the same plant, so parts are easy to get. Leaks under the door usually trace to a door gasket or overfilling from a bad valve.
Common failure points on Whirlpool dishwashers
- Manual-clean filter clogged
- Drain pump jammed on glass
- Inlet valve not opening
- Door latch not making contact
- Heating element open

Whirlpool Dishwasher FAQ
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Most likely the filter below the lower spray arm is overdue for a rinse. Twist it out, rinse it and put it back. If the grit continues, the wash pump or spray arms are checked.
The blink pattern is a diagnostic code. Often the door latch isn't closing properly or a sensor has failed. We read the code and test the latch and control.
