Kenmore Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords

A Kenmore is a store brand, and the company that built yours matters more than the name on the door. We read the model number, work out the manufacturer, and diagnose the machine the way that maker designed it. We have no connection to Kenmore, Transformco or Sears service; if your appliance is new enough to be under the maker's warranty, go through that first. For everything else, we come to the house, find the fault and quote the repair before starting.

Stacked & closet laundry
Townhouses and condos often put a stacked washer-dryer in an upstairs closet, so a small drip can end up staining the room underneath. Tell us where the machines sit.
Condo & high-rise rules
Many managed buildings ask for a certificate of insurance, a reserved freight elevator or set work hours. Check with yours and pass the rules along when you book.
Parking & access
Visitor spaces, garage clearance, gate codes and front-desk sign-in all shape a visit. Mention them at booking so nothing holds up the diagnosis.
Rentals & landlords
A tenant can book the visit. We report the fault and the price to the owner or property manager, who signs off before any work starts.
Garages, heat & humidity
A garage fridge or freezer can struggle through a hot, humid summer or a hard cold snap without any part failing. Check the temperature range in its manual.
Straight answers
When an older appliance isn't worth repairing, we say so and explain exactly which part failed.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Tell Us What's Wrong

Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.

02

Diagnosis at Your Home

The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.

03

A Price Before Work

We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.

04

Repair and Check

The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Kenmore

Who owns the name, and who builds the machines

Sears put the Kenmore name on its own merchandise early in the twentieth century. When Sears Holdings went through bankruptcy, Transformco bought the brand along with most of the retailer's assets in 2019, and it still holds Kenmore through its brands division.

Neither company runs appliance factories. Kenmore products have always been built under contract, mainly by Whirlpool, Frigidaire (Electrolux) and LG, with other suppliers for some categories. Two Kenmores bought on the same afternoon may have nothing inside in common.

The three digits before the dot

Most Kenmore model numbers start with a three-digit source code, then a dot. Some of the codes we see most: 106 and 110 for Whirlpool, 253 and 790 for Frigidaire, 417 for Electrolux and 795 or 796 for LG. There are others, and we look up the exact code rather than guessing.

Once the source is known, the rest follows. A 110 dryer takes the same belt and thermal fuse as its Whirlpool cousin; a 796 front-loader uses LG's control logic and error display. Sending a photo of the rating label when you book lets us prepare before the visit.

Long-lived machines in older houses and rentals

Sears sold Kenmore across the country for most of a century, so the brand is deep in the region's older housing: a washer and dryer in the basement of a postwar rambler, a spare refrigerator or chest freezer in a split-level's garage, an electric range in a garden apartment. Some have been running for a very long time.

Rentals add another pattern. Landlords and property managers, and the military and federal families who rotate through rentals every few years, inherit whatever Kenmore was already in the unit, with no manual and no service history. The model label is the starting point for all of it.

When an old Kenmore is worth fixing

An older Whirlpool-built Kenmore washer or dryer with mechanical controls is often one of the simplest machines to keep running, and its common parts are still made. A model whose control board or display was made only for Kenmore can be a different story if that board is discontinued.

We check the part before we recommend the repair. If the only fix depends on something that no longer exists, or the total isn't sensible for the age of the appliance, we tell you that plainly.

Kenmore products we see

  • Refrigerators: Every door layout, sourced mainly from Whirlpool (106), Frigidaire (253) and LG (795). We see defrost trouble, quiet fans, ice makers that quit and compressors that won't start.
  • Washers: Top-load and front-load washers, largely Whirlpool (110) and LG (796) designs. Lid and door locks, drain pumps, couplers, shift actuators, bearings and door boots are frequent repairs.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric dryers built mostly by Whirlpool (110) and LG (796). Thermal fuses, heating elements, igniters, gas valve coils, belts, rollers and idlers make up most of the work.
  • Dishwashers: Kenmore and Kenmore Elite built-in dishwashers from more than one supplier. Drain and wash motors, filters, inlet valves, latches and float switches account for most calls.
  • Ovens: Kenmore range ovens and the occasional wall oven. Burned elements, weak igniters, probes, self-clean locks and relay boards make up the work.
  • Microwaves: Countertop and over-the-range Kenmore microwaves, many of them LG-built. No-heat faults, door interlocks, hood fans and a turntable that won't turn are what we see.
  • Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, many Frigidaire-built, plus refrigerator freezer sections. Start relays, defrost components, gaskets, thermostats and fan motors are the usual repairs.
  • Cooktops: Every kind of Kenmore cooking surface: coil, smooth glass and gas. Burned sockets, stuck burner controls, dead glass elements and ignition faults are the regulars.
  • Stoves: Freestanding gas and electric Kenmore stoves that have outlasted several tenants or owners. We mostly replace oven igniters, lower elements, spark parts and burned coil sockets.
  • Ranges: Kenmore and Elite freestanding and slide-in ranges, often with convection. Unresponsive keypads, probe errors, noisy fans and heating failures fill the list.

Parts for Kenmore

The builder behind your Kenmore is also its parts source. Once the prefix points to Whirlpool, Frigidaire or LG, the pump or belt you need is usually the same one that maker puts in its own machines, and it's rarely hard to get. The pieces made just for Sears are the trouble: printed consoles, knobs, trim and certain control boards, some of them no longer produced. We look up the complete model number first, and if an equivalent is the only choice, we say so up front.

FAQ

Common Kenmore Questions

Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.

Still have a question?

Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.

Check the three digits before the dot in the model number. 106 and 110 point to Whirlpool, 253 and 790 to Frigidaire, 417 to Electrolux and 795 or 796 to LG, and we confirm any other code at the visit.

For most models, yes, because the parts come from the actual manufacturer. Kenmore-only panels and boards are the exceptions, and we check before quoting.

Elite was the higher trim, often with more electronics, but it was built by the same outside manufacturers. The model prefix still tells us how to diagnose it.

No. We are independent. If you hold an active manufacturer warranty or a service plan, use it first; we can help when coverage has run out.
