How a Microwave Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
Inside a Kenmore microwave
Many Kenmore over-the-range and countertop microwaves were built by LG, and the model prefix identifies the source. The most common complaint is a microwave that runs, lights and turns but doesn't heat, which is a high-voltage fault: magnetron, diode, capacitor or transformer. A unit that suddenly goes dead has usually blown its fuse, often because a door interlock switch failed. Over-the-range models also serve as the range hood, so they have a vent fan, grease filters and a cooktop light, and a vent fan that runs by itself usually means the unit's overheat sensor thinks the stove below is too hot. We discharge the capacitor before testing and compare the repair against a new unit.
Common failure points on Kenmore microwaves
- No heat from a high-voltage fault
- Door interlock switch failed
- Vent fan running on its own
- Blown line fuse
- Turntable motor stopped

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Its heat sensor is protecting the electronics from heat off the cooktop below. If it runs with the range off and cool, the sensor or control may have failed.
An over-the-range unit with a failed switch, fuse or fan usually is. A countertop unit with a magnetron failure often isn't, and we say so.
