How a Microwave Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How KitchenAid designs its microwaves
KitchenAid microwaves come as over-the-range units, built-ins, drawers and combination microwave-wall ovens. Heating failures come from the magnetron, diode or capacitor. Door interlock switches wear out, and one that fails shorted will take the line fuse with it as the door shuts. Combination units add a convection element and fan, so convection mode can fail while the microwave still heats. Over-the-range models have vent fans and lights that suffer from grease. We discharge and test high-voltage parts safely, check interlocks and fuses, and test convection parts separately.
Common failure points on KitchenAid microwaves
- Magnetron failed
- Interlock switch blew fuse
- Convection element open on combo
- Vent fan motor noisy
- Touch panel unresponsive

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
They share a cabinet and sometimes a control, but each has its own heating parts. We test the oven's elements, sensor and relays separately from the microwave.
Usually. A worn door interlock switch can blow the fuse at that moment. We replace the fuse and the faulty switch together and test the other interlocks.
