Amana Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords

Amana is Whirlpool's straightforward, lower-priced badge, and its appliances are built on familiar Whirlpool designs with fewer electronics than most. That keeps many repairs short and the parts easy to find. It also means a new Amana doesn't cost much, so every quote we give is weighed against replacement. We are independent and not part of the Amana or Whirlpool service network; an appliance still covered by the maker's warranty should go to them first.

Stacked & closet laundry
Townhouses and condos often put a stacked washer-dryer in an upstairs closet, so a small drip can end up staining the room underneath. Tell us where the machines sit.
Condo & high-rise rules
Many managed buildings ask for a certificate of insurance, a reserved freight elevator or set work hours. Check with yours and pass the rules along when you book.
Parking & access
Visitor spaces, garage clearance, gate codes and front-desk sign-in all shape a visit. Mention them at booking so nothing holds up the diagnosis.
Rentals & landlords
A tenant can book the visit. We report the fault and the price to the owner or property manager, who signs off before any work starts.
Garages, heat & humidity
A garage fridge or freezer can struggle through a hot, humid summer or a hard cold snap without any part failing. Check the temperature range in its manual.
Straight answers
When an older appliance isn't worth repairing, we say so and explain exactly which part failed.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Tell Us What's Wrong

Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.

02

Diagnosis at Your Home

The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.

03

A Price Before Work

We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.

04

Repair and Check

The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Amana

How a small Iowa company became a Whirlpool brand

The name comes from a cluster of villages in eastern Iowa known as the Amana Colonies. A local business there started building refrigeration equipment in the 1930s. Raytheon bought it in 1965, and in 1967 Amana brought out the Radarange, an early countertop microwave for home kitchens. Ownership moved again before Maytag took over the appliance line, and Whirlpool acquired Maytag, and Amana with it, in 2006.

The Amana name on furnaces, heat pumps and central air units belongs to a different company that licenses it. Those are HVAC equipment, not the kitchen and laundry line we work on.

The appliance that comes with the unit

Amana is often chosen by someone other than the person using it. Builders put it in starter townhouses, landlords put it in garden apartments and basement rental units, and a family facing a dead refrigerator on a weekend picks it because it's affordable and in stock.

That means we often meet Amanas with no paperwork and an owner who didn't buy them. The model and serial label, usually inside the door, on the back or under the washer lid, tells us which Whirlpool platform it's built on and what parts it takes.

Simple design, simple math

Most Amana laundry runs on the same top-load and dryer platforms as Whirlpool's basic models, and many Amana refrigerators, ranges and dishwashers share Whirlpool parts. Dial controls and fewer boards leave less to go wrong, and the common failures are the same belts, fuses, switches, valves and igniters we replace every week.

The flip side is that the machine is only worth so much. A thermal fuse or a lid lock is an easy yes. Refrigerant work, a transmission or a main control board on an aging unit may cost close to a new Amana, and in that case we tell you so rather than sell the repair.

Amana products we see

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side and French door models on Whirlpool platforms. Defrost parts, evaporator and condenser fans, start devices, ice makers and gaskets are routine repairs.
  • Washers: Top-load washers with an agitator or a low-profile impeller, most with dial controls, and a few front-loaders. Lid locks, drain pumps, shift actuators, drive belts and suspension rods come up most.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric dryers on Whirlpool's familiar 29-inch cabinet. No-heat calls (fuses, elements, igniters, coils) and noise calls (belts, idlers, rollers) make up nearly all the work.
  • Dishwashers: Basic under-counter dishwashers built with Whirlpool mechanics. Dirty filters, drain pumps, fill valves, latches, floats and the drying element are the regular fixes.
  • Ovens: The oven side of an Amana range. Elements, glow-bar igniters, the temperature probe, thermal cutoffs and hinges wear out most.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop Amana microwaves. Most visits end with a new door switch, fuse, diode, magnetron, hood fan or turntable drive.
  • Freezers: Freezer sections of Amana refrigerators and the brand's chest and upright freezers. Defrost components, start relays, thermostats, fans and door seals fail most.
  • Cooktops: Coil, radiant glass and gas tops on Amana ranges. Coil receptacles, infinite switches, radiant elements, spark igniters and burner valves are common repairs.
  • Stoves: Plain freestanding Amana stoves, gas or electric, the kind that come with an apartment. Loose coils, burned receptacles, pale-bottomed baking and burners that won't catch are what we hear about.
  • Ranges: Freestanding Amana ranges, including self-cleaning and electronic-control models. Oven sensors, igniters, elements, door locks and control boards are the usual parts.

Parts for Amana

Current Amanas draw on the same parts pool as Whirlpool and Maytag, so the everyday items like belts, pumps, fuses, igniters and lid locks are rarely a problem to find. The harder cases are machines from before the Whirlpool era and a few Amana-only boards and consoles. We look the part up by model number before quoting, and if it's gone or the total doesn't make sense against a new unit, we say so.

FAQ

Common Amana Questions

Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.

Still have a question?

Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.

Yes. Amana arrived at Whirlpool with the 2006 Maytag deal, and current Amanas use Whirlpool designs and a lot of Whirlpool part numbers.

Small parts like fuses, switches, belts and igniters are usually worth fixing. Sealed-system work or a major board on an older unit often isn't. We quote the repair and tell you which way we'd lean.

No. The HVAC equipment carrying the Amana name comes from a separate licensee. Our work is limited to Amana kitchen and laundry appliances.

Usually the landlord or property manager, since they approve and pay for work on their appliance. We explain the fault to whoever is home.
