Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How GE Appliances designs its stoves
Stove is what most people call their GE range, and the complaints tend to be simple to describe: a burner won't light, a coil stays cold, or the oven won't heat. On gas models the ignition system is the most frequent culprit; after a boil-over, liquid can get into a spark switch and make all the igniters click, or keep one burner from sparking. Coil-top electric stoves burn out receptacles and elements, and glass tops lose radiant elements or switches. On the oven side, a GE gas stove usually fails at the igniter and an electric one at the bake element. We check the circuit breaker, the gas supply and the anti-tip bracket, then test burners and oven separately.
Common failure points on GE Appliances stoves
- Igniters clicking with all knobs off
- Coil receptacle burned and loose
- Oven igniter glowing without lighting
- Surface switch stuck on high
- Burner port clogged after a boil-over

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Turn off power at the breaker or unplug it. Usually a spill has gotten into a spark switch. Sometimes it dries out on its own over a day or two. If it doesn't, we replace the affected switch.
The oven's bake element, its relay on the control board or the temperature sensor are the usual causes. We test each one; a failed bake element is the most common and the simplest repair.
