How Smeg designs its stoves
On Smeg ranges like the Victoria and Portofino, the cooktop is where most everyday issues show up. When a burner lights and then goes out, the thermocouple is the usual suspect. An igniter that keeps clicking may be wet after cleaning. Clogged ports cause uneven or weak flames, and a burner cap that isn't seated correctly can prevent lighting. Knobs and valves can become stiff over time. Most of these are small repairs. We clean and reposition parts first, then test the thermocouple, igniter and valve, and check that the knob and valve turn smoothly.
Common failure points on Smeg stoves
- Burner going out when the knob is released
- Igniter sparking nonstop
- Cap misaligned, uneven flame
- Burner ports clogged
- Stiff valve knob

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
It can make it hard to control the flame. Stiffness usually comes from grease or wear in the valve. We check the valve and knob and service or replace as needed. Avoid forcing it.
Clogged ports or a misaligned cap are common causes. Clean the burner and reseat the cap. If the flame stays yellow, the air mixture may need adjustment, which we can check.
