How a Dryer Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How GE Appliances designs its dryers
Most GE dryers use a similar layout: a drum driven by a belt around the motor pulley with an idler, drum rollers or glides, and either an electric heating element or a gas burner assembly with an igniter and valve coils. When a GE electric dryer stops heating, the thermal fuse, the high-limit thermostat and the element are the usual suspects, and a restricted vent is often the reason they failed. Gas models that light and then go out after a few seconds usually have failing valve coils. Noises tend to come from worn rollers, the idler or the drum glides. We check the exhaust run, meter the heating circuit, and spin the drum by hand to feel for worn bearings.
Common failure points on GE Appliances dryers
- Thermal fuse opened by poor airflow
- Gas valve coils losing hold after warm-up
- Idler pulley squealing
- Drum glides worn and scraping
- Moisture sensor coated with residue

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
That pattern often points to weak gas valve coils that stop holding the valve open once they warm up. A cycling thermostat tripped by a clogged vent can look the same, so we check the airflow before replacing the coils.
Most GE dryers use sensor drying. Fabric softener and dryer sheet residue on the moisture sensor bars can make the dryer think the load is dry. Cleaning the bars with a little rubbing alcohol often fixes it. If it doesn't, we test the sensor circuit.
