Smeg Refrigerator Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
We are independent and have no tie to Smeg. If the refrigerator is still inside its Smeg warranty, the manufacturer should be your first call. Once that coverage has ended, include the model number and the symptom in your booking so parts can be looked up ahead of the visit.
How a Refrigerator Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
How Smeg designs its refrigerators
A Smeg FAB refrigerator is simpler than it looks. The fresh-food section usually defrosts automatically: frost forms on the rear wall while the compressor runs, then thaws while the compressor rests, trickling along a groove to a small opening that leads to an evaporation tray over the compressor. When crumbs or a bit of food block that hole, water pools under the crisper drawers or freezes along the bottom of the back wall. Models with an internal freezer compartment need a manual defrost from time to time, and heavy ice there usually means the door or gasket isn't sealing. Thermostats and fans can fail, and a FAB boxed in without enough clearance runs constantly. We clear the drain, check the gasket, and test the thermostat and fan.
Common failure points on Smeg refrigerators
- Rear-wall drain hole plugged
- Water pooling under the crispers
- Freezer compartment crusted with ice
- Door gasket pulling away at the corners
- Thermostat not letting the compressor rest

Smeg Refrigerator FAQ
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
The defrost drain hole on the back wall is probably blocked. Use the small cleaning tool that came with the fridge, or a pipe cleaner, to gently clear it. If water still collects, we can clear the drain line and check the gasket and thermostat.
Check the manual for your model, but these refrigerators need room to release heat. Boxed in tightly by cabinets or pushed against a wall, it runs longer and may not stay cold in a warm room. Giving it breathing space often helps.
