How Thermador designs its refrigerators
Freedom column refrigerators are built to disappear into cabinetry, which means the condenser, fans and controls sit in a compact compartment at the top or bottom where airflow matters. A dusty or blocked grille lets the condenser run hot and the compressor struggles, so cooling fades on warm days first. Defrost failures frost the evaporator and starve the fresh-food side. Ice makers and water valves fail as they do elsewhere, but getting to them in a column takes more care. Heavy panel-loaded doors can drop on their hinges until the gasket no longer seals. We check condenser airflow and temperatures, test the defrost system, and adjust door alignment where needed before looking at sealed-system work.
