Hotpoint Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
In North America, Hotpoint is the entry-level line from GE Appliances, which Haier has owned since 2016. The name goes back to an electric iron sold in California in the early 1900s, and the company merged with General Electric's heating business in 1918. Today's Hotpoint appliances skip the extras: mechanical dials, simple boards and few sensors. That keeps them fairly easy to diagnose. We are independent, not part of GE's service program, so a Hotpoint that still has factory coverage should be reported to GE Appliances first. After that, we'll look at it in your home and give you a clear verdict on whether the repair makes sense.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Hotpoint Products We Service
Two Hotpoints, only one of them here
The Hotpoint name belongs to different companies on opposite sides of the Atlantic. In the UK and Europe, Hotpoint appliances come from a separate manufacturer and have nothing in common with the American ones. Every Hotpoint in a Northern Virginia home was built for the U.S. market under GE Appliances, and parts listed online for a European Hotpoint won't fit. We confirm the model number before ordering anything.
Simple machines, straightforward faults
A Hotpoint washer usually has a timer knob or a basic control, a top-load agitator, and a drive system shared with GE washers of the same era. The refrigerators are mostly top-freezers with a dial in the fresh food section. Ranges often have coil elements and a manual-clean oven. Fewer features mean fewer things to go wrong, and when something does fail, it's usually a single part that a meter can pinpoint quickly.
Many Hotpoint parts are identical to GE parts. That helps with availability, though it's always confirmed by the exact model and serial number.
Rentals, basements and first homes
Hotpoint is a favorite of landlords and property managers, so it appears in garden apartments, rented townhouses and basement units across the region. Plenty of owners also have a Hotpoint in an older rambler's basement laundry or a spare refrigerator in the garage. When the appliance belongs to a landlord, the landlord usually needs to approve the repair, and we're happy to give the diagnosis and quote in a form you can forward.
On a basic unit, the repair-or-replace line comes early. A new thermostat, belt or igniter is almost always worth it. A sealed-system leak or a cracked washer tub usually isn't, and we'll tell you.
Hotpoint products we see
- Refrigerators: Mostly top-freezer refrigerators with a dial control, plus some side-by-sides. We fix warm fresh food, frost buildup from defrost failures, noisy fans and water on the floor from a blocked drain.
- Washers: Top-load washers with an agitator and a basic control. Calls cover a machine that won't spin, won't drain, leaks under the cabinet or thumps out of balance.
- Dryers: Electric dryers, and some gas, with timer or simple sensor controls. Common repairs are the thermal fuse, heating element, belt, rollers and idler.
- Dishwashers: Entry-level built-in dishwashers with plastic tubs. We handle drains that back up, detergent cups that won't open, leaks at the door and dishes that come out dirty.
- Ovens: The oven section of Hotpoint electric and gas ranges. Typical fixes are a burned bake element, a tired igniter or a thermostat that has drifted.
- Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop Hotpoint microwaves. We repair door switches, vent fans, turntable motors and lights, and we're honest when a high-voltage failure makes replacement the better move.
- Freezers: Hotpoint upright and chest freezers, often in garages and basements. We diagnose warm cabinets, frost, door seals and compressors that won't start.
- Cooktops: The cooktop surface on Hotpoint ranges, mostly coil elements plus some gas burners. We replace coils, receptacles, infinite switches and igniters.
- Stoves: A Hotpoint stove as it's used every day: a coil that stays cold or won't turn down, a burner that won't light, and an oven that won't heat.
- Ranges: Freestanding electric coil and gas ranges from Hotpoint. Coils, burners, igniters, knob switches and oven heating parts are the usual repairs.
Parts for Hotpoint
Hotpoint parts come through GE Appliances and the distributors that carry GE components, and many are the exact GE part under the same number. Common wear items, including thermostats, elements, belts, pumps and switches, are generally easy to get even for older models. Parts listed for UK or European Hotpoint appliances will not fit an American unit. We order by the model and serial number, use genuine parts when they're offered, and tell you if we have to use an equivalent.
Common Hotpoint Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
More or less. Hotpoint is GE Appliances' basic line, often built on the same platforms as simpler GE models with fewer features. That usually means the parts are shared and easy to find.
Almost certainly not. The European Hotpoint brand is made by a different company and its designs aren't related to U.S. models. Match the part to your model number from a U.S. supplier.
You can, but most landlords want to approve a repair first, and some have their own service arrangements. We can diagnose it and give a written quote to pass along to the owner or property manager.
