How Thor Kitchen designs its ovens
Thor ovens, whether in a wall oven or a range, come in gas and electric, many with convection. Electric cavities usually fail at the bake or broil element or at the temperature sensor; a burned element sometimes shows a visible break, but we test it either way. Gas cavities use a glow igniter wired in series with the safety valve; as the igniter ages it passes less current, and the valve takes longer and longer to open. The convection motor eventually dries out its bearings and begins to growl. The doors weigh a lot, and once a hinge loosens, the top edge gaps and hot air rolls out across the control panel. We test ignition, elements, sensor and fan before looking at the controls.
Common failure points on Thor Kitchen ovens
- Weak igniter delaying ignition
- Bake element failed
- Convection fan bearing noise
- Sensor reading off
- Door hinges letting heat escape

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
A weakening igniter is the usual cause. It glows, but not strongly enough to open the valve quickly. We measure its current to confirm.
It often means heat is escaping around the door because the hinges have loosened or the gasket has worn. We check both.
