How an Oven Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.
Inside a Roper oven
The oven on a Roper range is the same as the oven on a basic Whirlpool range of that generation: a bake element or burner on the bottom, a broil element or burner on top, a sensor rod or capillary bulb that tells the control how hot the cavity is. When the oven won't heat, the element on electric models or the igniter on gas models is usually the problem. When the oven heats unevenly or runs off temperature, we check the sensor against a chart and compare to our own thermometer. We also check the door gasket, since a Roper oven door that doesn't seal well loses heat and throws off baking results.
Common failure points on Roper ovens
- Bake element shorted to the chassis
- Oven igniter weak
- Sensor resistance out of range
- Door gasket flattened
- Control relay failing

Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
A bake or broil element that has shorted to the oven body often trips the breaker, and you may see a bright flash or burned spot. We test and replace the element and check the wiring.
Many Roper ovens with electronic controls allow a temperature offset through a button sequence listed in the manual. If it needs a large adjustment, we test the sensor, since it may be failing.
