Gaggenau Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
Gaggenau traces its history to 1683 in the Black Forest town that gave it its name, and it has belonged to BSH Hausgeräte, the Bosch appliance group, since 1995. It sits at the top of BSH's range, above Thermador and Bosch, and it's sold as built-in modules rather than freestanding appliances. We are independent of BSH and are not an authorized Gaggenau service provider, so a Gaggenau appliance still under warranty should go to Gaggenau's own service first. Past that, we diagnose each module where it's installed and give you a price before any work.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Three centuries old, now part of Bosch's appliance group
Gaggenau builds its kitchens as separate pieces. The 400 series ovens and Vario cooktop modules are designed to be combined, and a kitchen might have a gas wok burner next to an induction module and a teppan yaki plate. The Vario cooling 400 series, introduced in 2018, does the same for refrigeration, with separate refrigerator, freezer and wine columns built into cabinetry.
Every module has its own controls and power connection, so we treat each one as its own appliance when diagnosing.
Panels, cutouts and condo building rules
Gaggenau is chosen by people planning a kitchen around it, so we mostly see it in custom remodels of older detached houses and in higher-end new construction and penthouse condos. The appliances disappear behind cabinet fronts, and getting to a fan or hinge can mean taking off a custom panel or easing a column forward on its anti-tip fittings. We protect finishes and floors and put panels back the way we found them.
High-rise buildings in Arlington and around Reston Town Center often ask contractors for proof of insurance, elevator bookings or fixed work hours. It's worth asking your management office about their requirements when you schedule.
Why steam ovens need descaling
A combi-steam oven boils water in a small generator every time it runs, and whatever minerals are in that water stay behind. The oven counts its steam use and asks for a descaling cycle; when the prompt is postponed for months, steam output falls, faults appear and seals can start to weep.
Plumbed models take water from a supply line and send waste to a drain, and the drain hose has to fall away from the oven. A kinked or raised hose is a surprisingly common cause of standing water in the cavity.
Because modules are built for exact cutouts and cost a lot to replace, fixing them is usually the practical path when the part exists. If it doesn't, you hear that from us first.
Gaggenau products we see
- Refrigerators: Vario cooling 400 and 200 series columns hidden behind cabinetry: refrigerator, freezer and fridge-freezer units. Stalled fans, drifting sensors, ice maker supply faults and heavy-panel door sag are what we meet most.
- Dishwashers: Panel-ready dishwashers that share much of their engineering with the wider BSH family, including tall-door models on sliding hinges. Leak-protection trips, drain blockages, heating faults and door balance problems are typical.
- Ovens: 400 and 200 series single and double ovens, combi-steam ovens and speed ovens. Cooling fan faults, scale in the steam generator, failed heating elements, door lock trouble and plumbed drain issues lead the list.
- Microwaves: Built-in microwaves and speed ovens that combine microwave power with convection, mounted in the oven wall. Magnetron and high-voltage faults, interlock switches and cooling fans are the usual repairs.
- Cooktops: Vario modules set side by side, such as gas and wok burners, induction, teppan yaki and electric grill, plus full-width cooktops. Flame supervision, electrodes, induction electronics and illuminated knobs are common work.
- Wine Coolers: Vario wine climate cabinets holding two or more independently set zones. Zone fans, temperature probes, humidity-related seal and drain issues and LED lighting account for most visits.
- Stoves: Owners often call the cooktop-and-oven pairing a stove. In a Gaggenau kitchen those are separate built-in units, so each gets its own diagnosis.
- Ranges: There's no one-piece Gaggenau range sold in the US. A range call here means a built-in cooktop or Vario row with a wall oven nearby.
Parts for Gaggenau
Replacement Gaggenau parts are ordered from BSH's North American parts operation, the same source that supplies Bosch and Thermador. Every order starts with the E-Nr and FD numbers printed on the appliance's rating plate, which pin down the exact model and production batch. Everyday wear items are normally in the system. Parts for early Vario modules, some trim and certain electronic assemblies can be slow or no longer made, and we'll know that and tell you before you say yes to a repair.
Common Gaggenau Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
The E-Nr, which is the model, and the FD, which is the production code. Both are on the rating plate. On ovens it's usually visible on the frame with the door open; on dishwashers and cooling columns look along the door edge or inside the cabinet. A photo sent when you book saves time.
Repair usually wins, since a new module is costly and has to match the existing cutout and neighbors. The exception is a failure needing a part Gaggenau no longer supplies, and we flag that before any work.
Gaggenau's own service organization. We're independent and don't do warranty claims, but once the coverage period ends we can help.
