Insignia Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
Insignia is Best Buy's own brand. The appliances are built by outside manufacturers to Best Buy's specifications, and they show up as second refrigerators, garage freezers, wine coolers and microwaves more often than as the main kitchen fridge. We repair them independently. If the unit is under the Insignia warranty or a Best Buy protection plan, start there. Otherwise we diagnose it on site, and if the repair wouldn't make sense for the price of the unit, we say so.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

A store brand with several makers
Best Buy doesn't make Insignia appliances. Different factories supply different product types, and the maker behind a given model can change between years. Model numbers generally begin with NS-, and the full model and serial are what identify the right parts.
That matters for repair. Parts for Insignia appliances are often sold under the manufacturer's own numbers rather than Insignia's, so matching them takes some care.
Second fridges, basement freezers and apartment kitchens
In Northern Virginia homes, Insignia units tend to be the extra appliance: a freezer in the basement of a split-level, a beverage cooler in a finished rec room, a compact fridge in a condo or a microwave in a rental. Garage freezers face summer heat and winter cold snaps, which pushes their compressors and controls outside their comfort zone.
Deciding whether to fix it
Insignia appliances are priced to be affordable, so the repair decision is tighter than on a premium brand. A fan, thermostat, door gasket or relay is usually worth replacing. A sealed-system failure on a small unit often isn't. We tell you what failed and give you the numbers so you can decide.
Insignia products we see
- Refrigerators: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer, French-door and compact refrigerators. Defrost faults, fan motors, thermostats, start relays and door gaskets are the most common repairs.
- Microwaves: Countertop and over-the-range microwaves. Door switches, fuses, vent fans and touch panels on over-the-range units are what we replace; countertop units rarely justify repair.
- Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, some convertible between fridge and freezer. Thermostats, start relays, door gaskets, defrost parts on upright models and fans come up most.
- Wine Coolers: Compact and built-in wine and beverage coolers. Thermostats, fans, door seals and controls are the usual repairs, and the cooling system is checked before any quote.
Parts for Insignia
Insignia parts can be harder to track down than parts for major brands, since they're often sold under the original manufacturer's numbers. Common items like fans, thermostats, relays and gaskets are usually available. Sealed-system and control parts can take longer. We match parts to the model and serial number, confirm availability before quoting, and tell you if a part is an equivalent.
Common Insignia Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Various contract manufacturers build them for Best Buy. The maker can vary by product and year, which is why we look up parts by the full model and serial number.
For simple failures like a fan, thermostat or gasket, usually yes. For a sealed-system failure on a small or older unit, often no. We give you the diagnosis and our honest view.
Use the plan first, since it may cover the repair. If the coverage has ended, we can diagnose it.
