Bertazzoni Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
Bertazzoni builds Italian ranges with European habits: a thermocouple on every gas burner, multifunction electric ovens, and a knob you hold in until the flame is safe. Most breakdowns come down to one of those small, separate parts, which is why a sound Bertazzoni is usually worth repairing. We do that work independently and are not part of Bertazzoni's service network. If the range is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Bertazzoni first. After that, we come out, find the failed part and quote it before any work.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Five generations in Guastalla
Bertazzoni was founded in 1882 in Guastalla, a small town in Emilia-Romagna in northern Italy, and it's still run by the Bertazzoni family, now in its fifth generation. The company's reputation rests on freestanding ranges, which it sells in North America in three families: Master, Professional and Heritage, the last styled after the family's early wood-burning stoves.
Wall ovens, cooktops, hoods, refrigerators and dishwashers were added later so a kitchen could be done in one look. Smeg, founded in the same town by another member of the Bertazzoni family, is a separate company.
Where these ranges end up
A Bertazzoni is a remodeling choice. It tends to go into a kitchen where the owner wanted real gas cooking and a color other than stainless: a renovated older house with a new open kitchen, a townhouse whose galley was widened, or an Ashburn or Reston home where the builder's range was swapped out. The 24- and 30-inch models also fit condo kitchens that can't take a pro-style range.
When a remodel adds a dual-fuel model, it needs both a gas line and a 240-volt circuit. If the connector or shutoff behind the range looks old or undersized, we mention it.
How the burner safety system works
Every Bertazzoni gas burner has a thermocouple, a small probe in the flame. When heated, it produces a tiny current that holds a magnet in the burner valve open. If the flame goes out, the current stops and the valve closes. Pressing and holding the knob for a moment after ignition gives the probe time to warm up.
So a burner that catches and then dies the moment your hand leaves the knob points to the flame-failure parts: a thermocouple tip that's dirty, worn or knocked out of the flame, or a tired magnet in the valve. The gas supply is seldom to blame. The oven works on a similar principle, and multifunction electric ovens add a selector switch that routes power to different elements for each mode.
Ordering Italian parts
Wear items for current ranges, like thermocouples, spark electrodes, burner crowns, knobs, elements and convection motors, generally ship from stock in North America. An enamel side panel in a particular color, a pane of door glass or a piece for a retired series is another story, since it may be sent from the factory in Italy. The serial label tells us which version you own, and you hear the likely wait before anything is ordered.
Bertazzoni products we see
- Refrigerators: Built-in column refrigerators and freezers and freestanding French-door models designed to match the ranges. Sensors, fans, ice makers, gaskets and defrost faults are the usual repairs.
- Dishwashers: 24-inch stainless and panel-ready dishwashers. Drain and circulation pumps, inlet valves, door hinge springs and leaks caught by the base float are common repairs.
- Ovens: Wall ovens, single or double, and the cavities inside Bertazzoni ranges. Fan motors, ring and lower elements, probes, mode selectors and gas oven ignition cover most visits.
- Cooktops: Gas cooktops with dual-ring power burners and a flame-failure valve on each burner, plus induction models. Flames that die on release, endless clicking and zones that cut out are typical.
- Stoves: A Bertazzoni stove in daily cooking: a burner that dies when the knob is released, a spark that won't stop clicking, or an oven that never quite gets up to the set temperature.
- Ranges: Master, Professional and Heritage ranges from 24 to 48 inches in gas, dual-fuel, electric and induction. Thermocouples, igniters, oven elements, fans and gas oven valves are the usual repairs.
Parts for Bertazzoni
Bertazzoni runs its own parts distribution for North America, so the pieces that wear out on a working range rarely leave you waiting long. Cosmetic and structural parts are slower: colored enamel, trim, oven glass and anything for an older series may travel from Guastalla. We photograph the serial label at the diagnosis, confirm the part number from it, and tell you if anything we fit is an equivalent.
Common Bertazzoni Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
Holding for a few seconds is normal: the thermocouple has to heat before it can keep the safety valve open. If the flame still dies after a good long hold, and cleaning the burner and reseating the crown doesn't help, the thermocouple or valve magnet needs testing.
Usually. Most failures involve a thermocouple, igniter, element, fan or switch, all replaceable separately, and the body and burners last a long time. The exception is a cosmetic or discontinued part that's no longer available, which we check before quoting.
Yes. They're built to match the ranges, but their insides are closer to other European built-in appliances. We diagnose them the same way: test the part, confirm by model and serial number, and quote before work.
