Scotsman Repair for Owners, Renters and Landlords
When a bar runs out of ice on a Friday, nobody cares about the logo on the machine, only about getting it making ice again. With Scotsman, the logo still matters for one reason: the brand builds cube machines and auger machines, and the two have almost nothing in common inside. We sort out which one you have before anything else. We're an independent commercial repair service and not in Scotsman's authorized network, so a machine inside its factory warranty period goes to Scotsman or the selling dealer first.
How a Repair Visit Works
Tell Us What's Wrong
Name the make, add the model number if it is handy, and describe the symptom. A picture of the label inside the door lets us check parts.
Diagnosis at Your Home
The technician tests the appliance along with its power, water, drain, gas or vent connections until the fault is confirmed.
A Price Before Work
We name the failed part and give you the cost of fixing it. Work starts only after you agree.
Repair and Check
The part is installed and the appliance is run through a cycle so you can watch it working.

Scotsman Products We Service
Vernon Hills and the Ali Group
Scotsman Ice Systems is based in Vernon Hills, Illinois. The Italian foodservice group Ali Group acquired Scotsman Industries in late 2012, and Scotsman now shares an owner with a long roster of commercial kitchen brands, including Ice-O-Matic.
Its cube machines carry the Prodigy name, and the current Prodigy ELITE models add an AutoAlert light panel and Bluetooth pairing with Scotsman's ICELINQ app, which shows diagnostics, settings and cleaning prompts on a phone. Nugget and flake ice come from auger-type machines, and the Meridian line pairs nugget ice with a built-in dispenser.
Plate freezing versus auger freezing
Prodigy cubers work in batches. Water runs down a chilled evaporator plate until the cubes are full size, then a harvest cycle warms the plate enough to drop the slab into the bin. Trouble tends to come from mineral scale, water-level and harvest sensing, and air-cooled condensers loaded with kitchen grease.
Nugget and flake machines never stop. Inside a refrigerated cylinder, a slowly turning auger shaves ice from the wall and drives it upward; a nugget machine also forces that ice through an extruding head to compress it. That is constant mechanical load on the gearmotor, the bearings at each end of the auger and the seal at the bottom, and scale on the cylinder wall multiplies it. These machines usually announce trouble with a noise first.
Ice-dependent businesses
In Northern Virginia, Scotsman cubers are common behind restaurant bars and in hotel and banquet kitchens, and nugget machines turn up in coffee shops, office break rooms, and medical and dental offices where patients get chewable ice. A couple of hours without ice is a real problem in most of those places.
Rebuilding an auger section, such as bearings, a seal or the auger itself, takes a few hours with the machine opened up, so we try to schedule it outside the busiest part of the day. Buying bagged ice for that stretch is sensible. Afterward we tell you whether the wear was normal for the machine's age or whether cleaning and water treatment should change.

Parts for Scotsman
We source Scotsman parts from commercial foodservice distributors. Bearings, auger seals, gearmotors, water pumps, float and harvest sensors are regular stock items. Evaporators, augers and control boards are looked up by the model and serial on the data plate, and some parts for older nugget and flake machines have been replaced by newer numbers. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you whether the machine is safe to run in the meantime or should be shut down.
Common Scotsman Questions
Brief answers to what customers most often ask us. Don't see yours? Ask when you call, or add it to the notes when you book online.
Still have a question?
Get in touch with the brand, the symptom and, if you can find it, the model number. Some things we can answer right away; others need a technician in front of the machine.
It's risky. A squeal usually comes from worn auger bearings or an auger dragging against scale, and running it that way can score the evaporator and overload the gearmotor. Book a visit soon, and descale it if it's due.
It pairs with the machine over Bluetooth and shows diagnostics, settings and guided cleaning steps. It helps spot a problem early, but a failed pump, sensor or valve still has to be tested and replaced on site.
Generally not. Shared ownership doesn't mean shared designs, and each brand engineers its own machines. We order by the Scotsman model and serial number on the data plate.
