How Miele designs its freezers
In a Miele freezer column or freezer drawer, trouble usually shows as frost. A thin layer on food near the door means warm air is getting in through a gasket, a drawer that isn't closing square, or a door that doesn't quite reach the cabinet. Thick ice on the back panel points to defrost: the heater, the defrost sensor or the control that times the cycle. If the evaporator fan is buried in ice, you may hear it ticking or scraping before it stops. The ice maker's fill tube can freeze solid when the water valve drips between cycles, and then there's no ice at all though the freezer is cold. We sort these out by where the frost is and whether the coil is clear before testing anything electrical.

Cold is being made but not moved. The evaporator is often iced over from a defrost problem, or the fan has stopped. We check the coil and fan first, then the defrost parts.
The fill tube may be frozen, or the water valve isn't opening. A water filter that's past due can also cut flow. We check the tube, valve and supply in that order.
